Thanks to my daughter, I actually know the music of Te Decemberists and Sufjan Stevens, so I actually got the reference! Now I feel cool and hip and contemporary!
But I do know the music of Mavis Staples from waaay back. I cannot imagine the juxtaposition of her soulful, gravelly voice with the Bob-Dylan-backup-band-on-methadone sound of the Decemberists. I think I'm having an acid flashback.
