Perhaps it bears noting that the Flaming Lips continue to make music that is timeless, important and thought-provoking while the Police are busy sleepwalking, going through the motions long enough to cash the checks. Given the opportunity to do it all again, I would have skipped the Police entirely and headed to the second stage early enough to get on the grounds. Watching Wayne Coyne act as his own roadie HAD to have been more entertaining.

I too just returned from Bonnaroo, I remember seeing you near us at Wilco. Your reviews of the shows I too saw seem spot-on. Great work. I too left The Police early, they just seemed to be going through the motions, they seriously needed to punk it up. God Bless The Flaming Lips! Perhaps the best live show I've witnessed in my 20+ years of concert going. Worth the entire ticket price alone.

Interesting comparison, Wayne Coyne's voice and Jerry Garcia's, especially since I've always thought your voice sounds like Wayne Coyne's on "Scared Straight."

I was at Bonnaroo this year & loved it.( As good as any other year I went) By far the highlight was Flaming Lips. I skipped The Police entirely to wait 3 hours for good seats for Flaming Lips.(Apx. 10th. row) Worth every second.I'm 40 & agree w/ alot of your post,especially the one about the atmosphere of the people.Dead on.

Never have I felt so pure at a show. The Lips are by far the best show I've ever seen. I waited by a bobble head on some unfortunate friends whom was supposed to meet me there but missed out. Then a random stranger, also waiting on an illusive friend plowed a path to the front for me giving me an amazing view of the madness. As soon as he had arrived, he vanished. Thank God for that stranger and his wonderful gifts.

Altough the Flaming Lips proved they could actually play wtih their rendition of War Pigs, the rest of their show was nothing but spectacle with piss poor music. Both Galactic and Gov't Mule were far better.

there was indeed a video screen at the bonnaroo lips show. it was the premiere of the new semi-circle screen (as opposed to rectangular).
